High incidence of adrenal suppression in children with Kawasaki disease treated with intravenous immunoglobulin plus prednisolone
Combination treatment with intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) plus prednisolone, newly designed for children with severe Kawasaki disease (KD), reduces coronary artery abnormalities significantly. As prednisolone is administered for approximately 20 days in this regimen, we examined whether adrenal function of the treated patients is suppressed. A prospective study was performed at one medical i...
متن کاملEarly viral suppression improves neurocognitive outcomes in HIV-infected children.
OBJECTIVE To estimate the association of age of viral suppression and central nervous system penetration effectiveness (CPE) score with neurocognitive functioning among school-age children with perinatally acquired HIV infection (PHIV+). DESIGN We analyzed data from two US-based multisite prospective cohort studies. METHODS Multivariable general linear regression models were used to evaluat...
متن کاملAdrenal suppression in children treated with swallowed fluticasone and oral viscous budesonide for eosinophilic esophagitis
BACKGROUND Adrenal suppression (AS), a glucocorticoid (GC) side effect associated with significant morbidity, is well described related to inhaled corticosteroid therapy for asthma. Swallowed topical glucocorticoid therapy is the main pharmacotherapy treatment for eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) and therefore children with EoE are potentially at increased risk of AS. METHODS In this prospectiv...
متن کاملMonitoring growth in asthmatic children treated with high dose inhaled glucocorticoids does not predict adrenal suppression.
AIMS To determine whether routine outpatient monitoring of growth predicts adrenal suppression in prepubertal children treated with high dose inhaled glucocorticoid. METHODS Observational study of 35 prepubertal children (aged 4-10 years) treated with at least 1000 microg/day of inhaled budesonide or equivalent potency glucocorticoid for at least six months. Main outcome measures were: change...
متن کاملPlasma efavirenz in HIV infected children treated with generic antiretroviral drugs in India.
We measured plasma concentration of efavirenz (EFV) in 16 HIV-infected Indian children receiving antiretroviral treatment at Government ART centres. The mean 12 hour concentration was 2.39 ug/mL (range: 0.72- 7.82 ug/mL). The majority of children treated with generic EFV at currently recommended doses had blood levels within the therapeutic range.
